New Orleans, LA – LCMC Health is pleased to offer “Career Jumpstart,” a free five-week program designed to prepare job seekers for clerical positions within the medical field. Career Jumpstart classes are designed to foster participants’ professional development and to improve their technical skills (which are easily transferrable to other industries and positions). LCMC Health first offered this program in April 2018 with great success. More than 75% of those who successfully completed this program were interviewed for open LCMC Health positions. Of those, more than 80% were offered employment. This program is made possible with the support of the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF).
“LCMC Health is committed to investing in our community through this exciting program,” said Greg Feirn, CEO, LCMC Health. “Our hospital system serves the healthcare needs of the community, and the ability to foster a stronger and more skilled work environment and better opportunities is just as valuable.”
“The Greater New Orleans Foundation works every day to build a vibrant, sustainable and just region for all. Strengthening our economy by ensuring our workforce has more access to professional development is just one of the ways our Foundation works to make impact,” said Andy Kopplin, the foundation’s President and CEO. “We are proud to make this investment and applaud LCMC for prioritizing the continued development of its workforce.”
Career Jumpstart takes a blended learning approach, offering both small-group classroom sessions and self-paced online classes. At the end of the program, participants can expect to have gained knowledge and skills in communication, career growth, customer service, time management, conflict resolution, professional presence, and basic computer skills. The computer skills training is designed to prepare participants to take the Microsoft Word Certification exam.
This program will be offered weekly starting Tuesday, October 2, 2018, with classes held in University Medical Center’s Conference Center, 2000 Canal Street, through October 30, from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon. There is limited space available, and beginning today, those interested can apply by searching “Career Jumpstart” via www.lcmchealth.org/careers.
To be considered for the program, participants must be eligible for work in the United States, have a completed resume, and must possess a GED, High School diploma or equivalent. They must also successfully complete a background check and drug screen. While not necessary, it is recommended that participants also have basic computer skills, possess a positive attitude, and be highly motivated to seek employment. Qualified applicants will be scheduled for an interview to determine who will be selected for the program.
Those interested can also email Hope Owens, the program’s coordinator, at Hope.Williams@LCMCHealth.org for more information.
