LCMC Health Neuroscience Symposium 2022

  • Categories: Symposium

About this event

Details:

This seminar addresses the latest evidence in acute stroke treatment, and secondary stroke prevention, specifically addressing areas of active clinical research and recent discovery. Special attention is paid to stroke in a pediatric population, a rare but devastating illness if not emergently managed and prevented where possible.

Using lecture, case presentation, and round table discussion, this seminar will highlight:

  • Acute clinical decision making and treatment to maximize stroke patient outcomes from the moment of presentation to intervention
  • Specific evidence-based recommendations for stroke prevention and management to prevent stroke and reduce stroke related complications
  • Atypical stroke populations, most notably, that of the pediatric population; focusing on identification of rare disease and emergent management, and those presenting with hemorrhagic stroke
  • Building more streamlined management in the first-response to stroke (ED to intervention) and integrating non-traditional clinical staff in pathway

At the conclusion of the LCMC Health Neuroscience Symposium, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss stroke management with multiple medical and surgical modalities
  • Identify changes in management of late window stroke, and modalities for diagnosis of core and penumbra (as well as articulate the differences between these)
  • Determine the indication for omitting IV thrombolytics prior to thrombectomy
  • Discuss pediatric stroke epidemiology, diagnosis, imaging modalities, and treatment
  • Discuss evaluation of patients using traditional laboratory studies, as well as newer techniques including transcranial doppler
  • Discuss the most effective means to respond to strokes from EMS to ED to transfer/admission
  • Identify Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) modalities used in rehabilitation
  • Discuss how emergency departments can streamline care for patients with stroke-like symptoms to maximize response
  • Discuss integration of advance practice providers in the management of those with critical neurologic injury / disease
