Cardiac care

Cardiac care involves medical management and surgical treatment for problems affecting your heart, arteries, and blood vessels. Common cardiac conditions include everything from coronary artery disease (also called CAD) and heart muscle disease to arrhythmias, heart attacks, and congenital defects.

Know your risk

Knowing your level of risk for developing a heart condition is half the battle of managing it. Some common risk factors include:

  • Family history of heart disease.
  • High blood pressure.
  • High LDL (bad) cholesterol and low HDL (good) cholesterol.
  • Obesity.
  • Physical inactivity.
  • Smoking.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Uncontrolled stress and anger.

If you have any of these risk factors, along with some of the symptoms that could signal a potential heart problem, consult a cardiologist as soon as possible.

If you’re concerned about your heart health or feel that your lifestyle choices might put you at a higher risk for a heart attack, take the CAD risk assessment, then follow up with your doctor or a heart specialist. This is a free, quick assessment provides a personalized report outlining your risk factors as well as suggested next steps to improve your heart health.

Symptoms to watch for

You’re unique, so depending on your age and other factors, your symptoms may differ from the next person’s. But some similar warning signscan alert you to a potential heart problem, including:

  • Discomfort, pressure, heaviness, or pain in your chest, arm, or below your breastbone.
  • Extreme weakness or anxiety.
  • Frequent nausea or dizziness.
  • Irregular heartbeats or palpitations.
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing when resting or during mild physical activity.

If any of your symptoms are ongoing or if they come on suddenly, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Vascular care

Vascular care is medical management and surgical treatment for problems affecting blood circulation outside the heart and brain — meaning, in your legs, arms, neck, and kidneys.

Our team of experienced vascular doctors and surgeons is skilled in a range of diagnostic and interventional cardiology services. Common conditions we treat include everything from blood flow issues related to diabetes, varicose veins, and pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) to peripheral artery disease (PAD), stroke, and carotid artery disease.

Heart attack symptoms

Is it a heart attack or indigestion?

Decoding the pain in your chest can be challenging. Chest pain caused by a heart attack can feel like heavy pressure or discomfort, or it can feel like fullness, heartburn, or indigestion. The pain can be intense or mild, and can last for more than a few minutes or it might go away and come back. And every

Know the signs

In addition to the heaviness and pressure felt in your chest, other common symptoms may include the following:

  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting.
  • Feeling unusually tired for no reason, sometimes for days (especially for women).
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Racing pulse (your heart may pound even when you’re at rest, or it might not stop racing after you’ve been active).
  • Pain in one or both arms.
  • Pain in your jaw or possibly in your back, shoulders, neck or upper part of the stomach.
  • Sweating (sometimes a cold sweat).

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Structural heart program

Structural heart conditions are problems that occur within the heart’s tissues or valves. They can occur at birth (congenital abnormality) or later in life. Once diagnosed, these conditions should be addressed quickly by a structural heart care specialist.

Patients can be referred to the Structural Heart Center by their primary care doctor or cardiologist (heart doctor). Our team works with referring physicians to provide individualized care that caters to your medical history and personalized risk factors. We will identify the best treatment options to repair your structural heart abnormality and monitor your long-term health after treatment.
