Specialties and Services

The region’s best neurological and neurosurgical care is available at Lakeview Hospital , a campus of Tulane Medical Center. As a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, you’ll have access to a multispecialty team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, oncologists, anesthesiologists, practice nurses and physician assistants. Our team of clinicians are not only experts in their field, but provide compassionate care for patients suffering from neurological conditions.

Neurology is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosis and treatment of conditions and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. Neurologists complete at least 12 years of higher education, and many have additional training or interest in one area of neurology, such as stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular, sleep medicine, pain management or movement disorders. Our neurologists do not perform surgery, therefore if a patient requires surgery, they will be referred to a neurosurgeon.

Neurosurgery is a highly specialized field of medicine that surgically treats conditions and disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. Our neurosurgeons, who are fellowship-trained and board-certified, are experienced in the very latest technology for all neurological surgical procedures, including minimally invasive techniques.

Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery utilizes image guided and physiologically guided surgeries that alter the function of the nervous system, for treatment of neurological disorders. Typically, stereotactic neurosurgery is a minimally invasive method to localize and treat targets in the brain. It is used for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Functional neurosurgical techniques are used to treat conditions such as movement disorders, epilepsy and chronic pain.

Neuroradiology is the diagnosis and treatment of conditions and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system using neuroimaging techniques. Lakeview Regional provides expert care for patients needing to schedule an exam to evaluate a potential neurovascular disorder or for patients who require emergency treatment. Our Primary Stroke Center has achieved the highest recognition from the American Heart/American Stroke Association for its comprehensive system for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients.

Interventional Neuroradiology is used to treat disorders of the blood vessels of the brain, spine, head and neck using a minimally invasive approach, usually from within the blood vessels. Interventional neuroradiology can prevent the need for more extensive surgery, which can cause increased risks and longer recovery times.

Neurocritical care is a unique discipline of medicine that provides critical care for patients with severe, life-threatening conditions, such as stroke, brain tumors, brain or spinal trauma, or bleeding around the brain in our dedicated neurointensive care unit.

Pediatric neuroscience is the specialized treatment for children with disorders or injuries of the brain, spine or nervous system. Our dedicated team of pediatric subspecialists provide expert care for infants and children under the age of 18.
