Dr. Rachel Hansen is a Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist at Children’s Hospital New Orleans.
She is originally from Maryland and received her undergraduate degree from Furman University, followed by a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
She completed her internship in pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital and pediatric residency at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital/New York Medical College. She completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center followed by an additional fellowship in pediatric cardiac intensive care at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
She is board-certified in Pediatrics and now serves as a pediatric cardiac intensive care faculty at Children’s Hospital New Orleans as well as Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics for LSU Health Sciences Center.
Her clinical and research interests include cardiac arrest prevention, post-operative care for critically ill infants with congenital heart disease, and improving clinical outcomes for infants with single ventricle congenital cardiac disease.
Dr. Hansen chose to practice in the cardiac intensive care unit because she enjoys taking care of critically ill children and helping the families of her patients through the stressors of cardiac surgery.
Little Something Extra:
She is an avid dog lover and has two dogs of her own. Their names are Stella and Camden; they are both rescue dogs adopted in South Carolina and Chicago, respectively.
