A new report from the CDC shows that breastfeeding rates are increasing across the nation. This is good news, as breastfeeding is widely recognized as the healthiest choice for both baby and mother.

Tulane-Lakeside Hospital is doing its part to keep the momentum going by joining Best Fed Beginnings, a national project to improve maternity practices in US hospitals to better of support a mother’s choice to breastfeed. The project is led by the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ), through a collaborative funding agreement with the CDC.

We are marking the occasion of National Breastfeeding Month by announcing Tulane-Lakeside’s intention to become designated as “Baby-Friendly.” This designation means that a hospital has comprehensively implemented the American Academy of Pediatrics-endorsed Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, as established in the WHO/UNICEF Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.

Tulane-Lakeside Hospital is committed to making these changes and we look forward to feedback from our patients as we embark on this journey together.
