Dr. Trey Dunbar named Tulane Health System’s chief medical officer

Dr. Trey Dunbar, Tulane University School of Medicine’s section chief of neonatology, will also serve as Tulane Health System’s chief medical officer starting July 24. While Dr. Dunbar will maintain his multiple roles within Tulane University School of Medicine, he will now also provide physician leadership and input into quality and safety initiatives at all three Tulane Health System campuses, which include Tulane Medical Center, Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children, and Lakeview Hospital .

Dr. Dunbar is already a proven leader within the health system’s quality efforts, as he also serves as the vice chair of patient safety and quality improvement for the school’s department of pediatrics. Additionally, he serves as the Elsie Schaefer Chair of Neonatology and as an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the school.

An outstanding champion of patient safety and quality care, his experience includes serving as physician leader of Tulane University's Vermont Oxford Neonatal Quality Improvement collaborative team. Dr. Dunbar also works with the pediatric residency program to develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative quality and patient safety core curriculum. Dr. Dunbar is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both general pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine.

After receiving his medical degree from Wake Forest University, Dr. Dunbar completed his pediatric residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville and his neonatology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He then earned a master’s of business administration from Louisiana State University's Ourso College of Business Administration.
