Discuss prostate cancer treatment options in interactive Facebook live session

Join Tulane Cancer Center experts Dr. Kendra Harris and Dr. Spencer Krane for live Q&A

New Orleans – What is the best treatment option for prostate cancer—surgical, radiation therapy or medical oncology? Should I seek a second opinion about my prostate cancer diagnosis?

Questions such as these—and many more—will be asked and answered during an upcoming Facebook Live event featuring Tulane Cancer Center experts Dr. Kendra Harris and Dr. Spencer Krane. The interactive event is scheduled for 6:30pm Tuesday, Aug. 27, and will be accessible on the Tulane Health System Facebook.

Drs. Harris and Krane—along with medical oncologist Dr. Pedro Bararta—recently help create the Tulane Multidisciplinary Prostate Cancer Clinic, which brings patients and family members together with medical oncologists, urologic surgeons and radiation therapy specialists to discuss all possible treatment options in one convenient visit.

“We’ve assembled the most experienced prostate cancer treatment team in the Gulf South region,” said Dr. Krane, a urologic surgeon at Tulane Medical Center. “We want to share this expertise with patients and families who need us. And we want to try and take away some of the stress of an incredibly stressful time.”

The new clinic is for patients who have received a prostate cancer diagnosis and would like to review all possible options or discuss a second opinion of a current treatment plan.

“We know that waiting can sometimes be the most difficult aspect of the treatment process, so it’s important that one of us sees any patient who calls within 48 hours of that inquiry,” said Dr. Harris, a radiation oncologist at Tulane Medical Center. “From there, we can arrange a more in-depth evaluation with the entire group.”

During the Facebook Live session, the physicians will provide an overview of prostate cancer risk factors and warning signs, a review of common treatment options and a description of the Tulane Multidisciplinary Prostate Cancer Clinic and its services. They will also take questions from viewers. This is the latest in a series of Facebook Live events providing live, interactive access to Tulane Health System experts on a variety of health topics.
