LCMC HEALTH PARTNERS WITH SECOND HARVEST FOR FOOD DISTRIBUTION EVENT, ANNOUNCES RESULTS FOR FOOD AND DIAPER DRIVE

“Together for Good” campaign invited community members to donate food and diapers throughout September in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and Junior League of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – For Hunger Action Month, LCMC Health partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank to collect food donations to support their vital mission of combating food insecurity across the Greater New Orleans area. Today, LCMC Health leadership and staff gathered at the Broadmoor Food Pantry to distribute pre-packed bags of food to community members as well as provide free health screenings and educational resources.

LCMC Health also partnered with the Junior League of New Orleans Diaper Bank in recognition of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, Sept. 14–20.

At today’s event, LCMC Health announced the results of these 2 donation drives:

· 623 pounds of food collected

· 11,727 diapers collected

· A total of 475 families supported

“Health is shaped by more than what happens inside a hospital. Partnering with Second Harvest and Junior League of New Orleans to provide essentials like food and diapers helps us strengthen the health and well-being of families across our community,” said Greg Feirn, CEO of LCMC Health.

The effort is part of Together for Good, a community campaign bringing LCMC Health hospitals, team members, patients and neighbors together to address food insecurity and diaper needs across the region. Throughout the month of September, LCMC Health set up food and diaper donation drop-off sites in all eight of our hospitals.

In addition to the food distribution, LCMC Health and community partners provided health and wellness resources directly to residents. These included flu vaccinations in partnership with Walgreens and blood pressure screenings provided by LCMC Health team members.

Food insecurity continues to affect families throughout the region, with approximately one in five people in our community experiencing food insecurity. LCMC Health and Second Harvest Food Bank have an ongoing partnership focused on addressing this challenge and improving health across Greater New Orleans. In 2025, LCMC Health contributed $75,000 to Second Harvest and collected more than 2,600 pounds of food through its systemwide efforts.

The need for diapers is also significant. Nearly one in two families struggles to afford enough diapers, while three in five parents experiencing diaper need report missing work or school because they cannot provide the diapers required for childcare. Additionally, 28 percent of parents experiencing diaper need report skipping meals to afford diapers.
