Tulane Surgery Clinic Northshore adds endocrine, bariatric services

Access to Tulane Health System medical experts will become much more convenient for Northshore residents beginning this September. Tulane Surgery Clinic Northshore - which opened earlier this year on the Lakeview Hospital campus with Tulane Transplant Institute services - is now adding endocrine and bariatric, or weight-loss, surgical services.

The Tulane Bariatric Center offers patients the latest surgical weight-loss solutions, with support before and after the procedure to provide all the resources needed for healthy lifestyle changes.

Like organ transplant patients and donors, bariatric patients often require multiple clinic visits before and after surgery to monitor readiness and progress throughout the weight-loss journey. This clinic offers a more convenient touchpoint for patients in St. Tammany and surrounding parishes, said Tulane bariatric surgeon Dr. Shauna Levy.

"It's important to have a community of support during the weight-loss experience. We have wonderful support groups, both online and in person, but it's just as important to meet regularly with your physician and dietician to ensure you have all the guidance and encouragement you need," Dr. Levy said. "We are so happy that we are now making these resources available in person to a new community, and we look forward to seeing lives transformed as a result."

Additionally, the surgery clinic will offer diagnosis and treatment of common endocrine procedures, including adrenal disorders, pituitary diseases and thyroid issues such as hyperparathyroidism and thyroid cancer.

"When you need to see a doctor, chances are, you don't feel well and you don't want to have to travel," said Dr. Grace Lee, a Tulane Health System endocrine surgeon who will staff the clinic and perform some surgical procedures at Lakeview Regional. "We're excited to be able to bring our services closer to new communities and make it easier for these patients to get the care they need."

There are plans to add additional surgical specialties to the clinic in the coming months.

"One of the things that excited us most about joining Tulane Medical Center was the ability to offer the Northshore region new and expanded services," said Hiral Patel, CEO of Lakeview Regional, which is a campus of Tulane Medical Center. "This is the latest example of our team delivering on that promise and bringing the experts and specialized services of Tulane right here to our community."
