Lakeside Hospital offers new “scarless” hysterectomy procedure

A new minimally invasive option for hysterectomy procedures with less postoperative pain, no visible scars, and faster recovery time is now available to patients at Lakeside Hospital.

Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, also known as vNOTES, eliminates the need for the surgeon to make incisions in the patient’s abdomen to perform the surgery. In the vNOTES procedure, the doctor uses specialized instruments inserted through the vagina instead of making incisions in the abdomen. This allows the doctor to access the uterus and/or fallopian tubes and ovaries without any visible scarring.

“As a surgeon, I am continually seeking opportunities to offer the most advanced techniques to my patients,” said Dr. Samuel Alexander, a specially trained vNOTES surgeon. “Because the procedure is less invasive, the vast majority of my patients are able to leave the hospital the same day and return to their busy lives more quickly.”
