Hurricane Resources

Lakeside Hospital uses a comprehensive hurricane preparedness plan to provide safety and security to our patients and staff before, during and after a major storm. We work with local and national vendors to provide security, electrical power, food and other support services. Facility safeguards are securely in place, such as back-up power sources and fuel, facility flood prevention and emergency communication devices, to maintain our facility’s ability to operate in the event of a hurricane. Transfer processes and plans within our network of Tulane Health System and LCMC Health hospitals across the country exist in the event that patients would need to be relocated.

As an acute care hospital and academic medical center, Lakeside Hospital is committed to providing for our patients and staff during a storm. Please be aware that we are not equipped to serve as a community shelter during a storm.

Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide online resources for preparation before a storm, managing after a storm, as well as information for health care providers and first responders.

If you receive home health care and are homebound

If you are a homebound patient or dependent on any medical device that requires electricity, please contact your physician to ask for his or her recommendation.

If you are receiving home health services, ask your home health provider to create a hurricane plan to be sure that your care needs are met during and after the storm.

If you require oxygen, check with your supplier about emergency plans.

In the event that you evacuate, please remember to bring with you any needed medications or special equipment, as well as bedding and written instructions for your care.

If you have special needs

If you depend on any medical device or life support systems which require electricity, plan to relocate well before a hurricane. You might not have access to electrical power before, during or after a storm.
