Veronica's Decade of Healthy Care at New Orleans East Hospital

Veronica's Decade of Healthy Care at New Orleans East Hospital

For over 35 years, Veronica Brown has called New Orleans East home. And for much of the last decade, she's found her healthcare home right here in the neighborhood at New Orleans East Hospital. Our hospital opened its doors in 2014, bringing vital, full-service care back to the community after Hurricane Katrina. Since then, we've been dedicated to providing a "Culture of Healthy Care," and Veronica's journey with us truly embodies what that means for our patients.

Veronica's story highlights the deep trust and comfort she's found with her care team, describing an environment that "truly showed care, compassion, and a personal touch." Let's dive into her experience.

Compassionate Care, Right in Her Neighborhood

Veronica's healthcare journey with us began with primary care. She found a trusted partner in Dr. Jan Cooper, our internal medicine specialist. From their very first meeting, Dr. Cooper's warm and attentive approach made Veronica feel like family. Veronica appreciated how Dr. Cooper genuinely listened to her concerns and worked with her every step of the way to manage her health. The convenience of having quality primary care so close to home was a huge relief for Veronica – no more long commutes for essential appointments.

As part of her commitment to staying healthy, Veronica also utilized our women's health services for a routine mammogram. Understandably, she was a bit nervous, but our staff's gentle and supportive care quickly put her at ease. The screening went smoothly, and Veronica left with peace of mind, grateful that this important service was readily available right in her community.

Feeling Supported Through Surgeries and Emergencies

When an unexpected health issue arose, requiring surgery, Veronica put her trust in Dr. Abdul Khan, our gastroenterologist and our surgical team. Facing surgery can be daunting, and Veronica admitted to feeling anxious. However, Dr. Khan's calm and caring bedside manner helped ease her fears. "I was very nervous, but everything went well," she shared. The ability to recover smoothly right here in her community, without the added stress of traveling to a distant hospital, was incredibly important to her.

Veronica also experienced firsthand the dedication of our Emergency Department during a serious health scare within her family. She saw our team spring into action, providing immediate care and comfort to her loved ones. Whether it was a late-night asthma attack or a sudden injury, Veronica knew she could count on New Orleans East Hospital for swift, life-saving care delivered with a personal touch. Even when advanced treatment was needed beyond our walls, she felt secure knowing we would ensure a seamless transfer to a specialty center within the LCMC Health network.

A Network of Care: Stronger Together with LCMC Health

Being part of LCMC Health means New Orleans East Hospital is connected to a larger network of care, including major hospitals like University Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center and safety net hospital of Louisiana. Veronica recognizes that this partnership "brings wide-ranging benefits... by expanding access to comprehensive and specialty care." For her and other patients, this means that if a service isn't offered on-site, New Orleans East Hospital coordinates with the LCMC Health network to ensure they get to the right place. Patients are stabilized here, and then a smooth transition is arranged to facilities like University Medical Center for advanced treatment when necessary, ensuring they remain in good hands throughout their care journey.
