Tulane Health System names Jennifer Schmidt new associate chief nursing officer

Tulane Health System has promoted Jennifer Schmidt, MSN, RN, as its associate chief nursing officer. In this role, she will serve as the on-site senior nursing leader for the Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children campus, while also coordinating key patient care activities throughout the health system.

Schmidt joined Tulane Health System more than 20 years ago as a staff nurse. Over the years, she has demonstrated a record of success in a series of increasingly larger roles, including serving as clinical supervisor of the pediatric intensive care unit and director of pediatrics. In her most recent position, she served as director of Tulane’s women’s and children’s services.

During Hurricane Katrina, Schmidt supported the safe evacuation of patients and staff, and she later contributed to the reorganization and restructure of operations post-Katrina. In 2014, she was instrumental in successfully consolidating and relocating pediatric services to the Tulane Lakeside campus in Metairie.

“Jennifer will be an outstanding addition to our senior administrative team,” said Jana Stonestreet, Tulane Health System’s chief nursing officer. “We are confident in her ability to provide leadership to our nursing staff and enhance the overall quality of care provided within Tulane Health System’s clinics and hospitals.”

Schmidt earned a Master of Science in nursing with a focus in healthcare systems management from Loyola University, New Orleans, and recently graduated from the year-long LCMC Health Executive Development Program.
