Louisiana Cancer Prevention & Control Programs Partners with New Orleans East Hospital (NOEH) to Expand Access to Lifesaving Breast Cancer Screenings

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Cancer Prevention & Control Programs (LCP), and LCMC Health New Orleans East Hospital (NOEH) are partnering to help women to prioritize their breast health through a collaboration that expands access to screening mammograms for eligible uninsured and underinsured women across the region.

Through this partnership, beginning Monday, November 2, 2026, eligible women can receive free screening mammograms, and LCP, a program of the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, can also provide women with scheduling assistance and personalized navigation support to help guide them through the screening process and any necessary follow-up care.

“Early detection saves lives, and no woman should have to choose between her health and her finances,” said Dr. Takeisha C. Davis, President and CEO of New Orleans East Hospital. “Through this partnership with LCP, we’re making it easier for women in Eastern New Orleans to get screened close to home, with the support they need every step of the way.”

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, but routine screenings can help detect cancer earlier when it is most treatable. The partnership aims to reduce barriers to care and connect more women with potentially lifesaving preventive services.

Eligible participants include:

  • Women ages 40-64
  • Women of any age who have breast symptoms or concerns
  • Women who are uninsured or face financial barriers to care
  • Women from low-income households
  • Louisiana residents

Imaging orders from a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant are required to schedule a mammogram through this program, but for women who do not have a primary care provider, LCP can connect them to a physician.

"Improving access to breast cancer screening and prevention services is essential to reducing the burden of cancer for women in Louisiana," said Donna Williams, DrPH, Director of the LCP. "Our partnership with NOEH is helping detect cancer earlier and connect patients to care sooner for the best possible outcomes."

Women interested in learning more about eligibility requirements or scheduling assistance are encouraged to contact Louisiana Cancer Prevention & Control Programs.
