Consistent, regular prenatal care can protect you and your infant and ensure a healthy pregnancy. Following a healthy, safe diet, and getting regular exercise as advised by your doctor can promote fetal health and development. Having a baby is one of the most extraordinary experiences in a woman’s life and we’re excited to help you navigate your childbirth experience before, during, and after your pregnancy.
And because Lakeside Hospital understands that no two pregnancies are alike, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all maternity care. We’ve designed a full-scale, individualized, and positive approach to birth preparation, labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

Pre-registration
As your pregnancy approaches 20 weeks, we encourage you to complete the registration process to simplify everything for your labor and delivery at Lakeside.

What you'll need to to pre-register:
- Your personal contact information
- Emergency contact information
- Insurance information, group name and number, policy number, address and telephone number
- Physician name
- A list of all medications you are taking, their dosage and frequency.
Prenatal tests
During your pregnancy, your health care provider may recommend a common variety of screenings, tests, and imaging techniques. Routine tests include blood and urine samples that provide information about the health of your baby and optimize prenatal care and may include checking for sexually transmitted diseases, anemia, diabetes, hepatitis B, and pre-eclampsia. Other tests may include a pap smear, a vaginal skin swab to check for group B strep, or an ultrasound to determine the baby’s healthy development, growth, and sex (if you want to know the sex prior to birth). In some cases, if determined to be at elevated risk, your doctor may also suggest additional prenatal tests to look for signs of genetic disorders or birth defects.
High-risk pregnancy
Maternal - fetal medicine clinic
Occasionally, special care is needed during pregnancy and/or after delivery to ensure you and your baby have the best outcome. Should your pregnancy require a high-risk maternal-fetal medicine specialist, or your newborn needs a more advanced level of care, we offer high-risk pregnancy care through our maternal-fetal care services and our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Lakeside Hospital’s antenatal rooms are available to care for high-risk expectant mothers if needed.
Our Maternal-fetal medicine clinic, staffed by board certified specialists in maternal-fetal medicine, also known as Perinatologists, help manage difficult or high-risk pregnancies in addition to the care your obstetrician provides. To detect issues early and proactively treat potential problems, we utilize diagnostic ultrasounds, chorionic villus sampling, genetic and therapeutic amniocentesis, intra-uterine blood transfusions, and a full range of pre-natal risk screenings to help extend pregnancy and support the baby’s full-term development. At delivery, if specialized care is needed, our neonatal team is available.
Multiple births - twins, triplets+
Having more than one baby at a time can multiply the love and excitement — as well as the stress. Carrying twins, triplets or higher-order multiples also means you’ll need special care — more support while you’re pregnant, when you deliver your babies and after giving birth. Your babies also need specialized care. You can trust Lakeside to give all of you the right start.

Classes & resources
Lakeside offers classes and resources to help you through every phase of your pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. Registered nurses and certified lactation consultants conduct the classes, so you’ll feel confident and prepared for your special delivery.
