Building the emotional connection between mother and baby starts immediately after birth. Skin-to-skin contact, breast feeding, and rooming-in 24-7 provides physical and psychological benefits for mother and baby. In your childbirth suite, interruptions are kept to a minimum to encourage optimum bonding moms and their newborns.

Certified lactation and breastfeeding care

The Breastfeeding Center at Lakeside is staffed by board-certified lactation consultants and open seven days a week offering guidance and support during and after your pregnancy. A full range of supplies are available including breast pumps (purchase or rental) for short term or long-term needs. Private consultations are available for a fee to address individual needs. Our Breastfeeding phone line is available for questions from new moms with follow-up phone calls from our lactation specialists.

The Gift

The Gift is an evidence-based program designed to assist Louisiana birthing facilities in increasing breastfeeding rates to improve the quality of their maternity services and enhance patient-centered care. It is a hospital designation program that provides resources and a framework to help improve breastfeeding outcomes through incremental adoption of internationally recognized practices.

Baby Friendly USA

Lakeside Hospital is recognized as a Baby Friendly USA hospital for its commitment to providing optimal care for infants and mothers by meeting rigorous standards for maternal and infant care and promoting the healthiest start for newborns. Key aspects include:

  • Immediate mother-baby bonding: Encouraging skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding right after birth.
  • Optimal care for infant feeding: Implementing practices that support mothers informed decision on feeding her infant.

Birth Ready

This Louisiana Perinatal Quality designation celebrates Lakeside Hospital’s consistent healthcare improvement for perinatal health outcomes, the result of implementing clinical practices to promote safe, equitable, and dignified birth for all. Hospitals receiving the Birth Ready designation must meet five requirements that include participation in collaborative learning, health disparity and patient partnership, policies and procedures, structures and education, and outcome and process measures.
