LCMC Health partners with City to provide first aid stations along Mardi Gras parade routes

New Orleans, LA – LCMC Health is partnering with the City of New Orleans Health Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross to provide first aid stations along the Uptown and Mid City parade routes.

Volunteers from the Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps, the New Orleans EMS, and the American Red Cross will be manning the first aid stations.

“At LCMC Health we believe in delivering healthcare with heart, and that does not stop along the parade route,” said Dr. Jay Kaplan, and emergency medicine physician who also serves as Medical Director of Care Transformation, LCMC Health.

“It is a perfect partnership for LCMC Health to support the City’s emergency and first aid services in this unique way during the Mardi Gras season, especially since three of our hospitals are located on or near the parade routes.”

Children’s Hospital New Orleans and Touro are near the uptown parade route and University Medical Center New Orleans is located on the Mid City route.

The locations for first aid stations along the Uptown route are as follows:

  • Napoleon and St. Charles Avenues
  • Louisiana and St. Charles Avenues
  • Washington and St. Charles Avenues
  • Felicity Street and St. Charles Avenue
  • The Circle at Howard Avenue
  • Poydras and St. Charles Avenues
  • Canal Street and St. Charles Avenue

The Mid City locations will be at the following intersections:

  • Orleans Avenue and Hennessey Street
  • Carrollton and Bienville Avenues

The volunteers working the first aid stations will be CPR- and first aid-certified and prepared to provide treatment for basic injuries. If the situation warrants, they will assist in transporting parade-goers to a nearby emergency care location.
