LCMC HEALTH'S EAST JEFFERSON GENERAL HOSPITAL ACHIEVES MBSAQIP ACCREDITATION

East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) is proud to announce its official recognition by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), in partnership with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), as a Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications. This accreditation was received in January and will last three years until January 2028, when the hospital will have to be re-accredited.

“Our unit at EJGH is committed to supporting quality improvement and providing the best care to metabolic and bariatric surgery patients,” said EJGH Obesity Medicine Director Dr. Shauna Levy, MD, FACS, who recently completed her 500th robotic surgery on Christmas Eve 2024. “We’re proud to be a trusted resource for our patients as we help them on their wellness journey.”

The accreditation process included a comprehensive review of various aspects of the program. These include staffing and training; facilities and equipment; critical care unit and intensive care unit services; as well as patient care, education and support groups. Overall, EJGH was credited with being well-organized and equipped to meet the needs of their patients. Providing great care and communication alongside excellent collaboration among departments has made the patient experience transparent and efficient.
