Manning Family Children’s and New Orleans East Hospital recognized as Hospitals of the Year by Louisiana State Nurses Association

Two LCMC Health hospitals earned top honors at the Louisiana State Nurses Association’s annual Nightingale Awards and Gala, with Manning Family Children’s named Hospital of the Year (161 beds or more) and New Orleans East Hospital named Hospital of the Year (60 beds or less).

The awards were presented Saturday, Aug. 22, recognizing both hospitals for their commitment to extraordinary patient care, nursing excellence, community impact and exemplary healthcare leadership.

“Having two LCMC Health hospitals recognized as Hospitals of the Year is an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the extraordinary people who care for our patients and communities every day,” said Allison Guste, Chief Nursing Executive of LCMC Health. “While New Orleans East Hospital and Manning Family Children’s serve different patient populations, they share the same commitment to putting people first. These honors reflect the leadership, compassion and clinical excellence of our nurses and care teams and the important role both hospitals play in the health of our region.”

The Louisiana State Nurses Association’s Nightingale Awards recognize excellence in nursing and healthcare leadership throughout Louisiana. The Hospital of the Year awards honor organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to nursing values, professional practice, quality patient care and service to their communities.

Manning Family Children’s: Hospital of the Year

Manning Family Children’s was named Hospital of the Year (161 beds or more), recognizing the hospital’s commitment to delivering comprehensive, specialized pediatric healthcare for children and families across Louisiana and the Gulf South.

As Louisiana’s largest freestanding children’s hospital, Manning Family Children’s serves as a regional destination for pediatric care, bringing together specialized physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals dedicated exclusively to the unique needs of children. Its multidisciplinary teams provide care across a broad range of pediatric specialties, from routine and preventive services to highly complex medical and surgical care.

The recognition reflects the critical role nurses play throughout Manning Family Children’s — caring not only for young patients but also supporting and educating families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Through clinical expertise, collaboration and a family-centered approach, nursing teams are integral to the hospital’s mission of providing extraordinary care to every child.

Beyond the hospital, Manning Family Children’s works to improve the health and well-being of children through community programs, education, prevention initiatives and partnerships designed to address the broader needs of Louisiana families.

New Orleans East Hospital: Hospital of the Year

New Orleans East Hospital’s recognition as Hospital of the Year (60 beds or less) reflects its role as both a healthcare provider and a vital community and economic anchor for Eastern New Orleans.

Since opening in 2014 as the first full-service hospital to serve New Orleans East following Hurricane Katrina, the hospital has become an essential healthcare resource for residents throughout New Orleans East, Gentilly, the Lower Ninth Ward, St. Bernard Parish and surrounding communities.

At the center of that mission is the hospital’s nursing team, whose work encompasses bedside care, clinical leadership, patient advocacy, education, quality improvement and community outreach.

New Orleans East Hospital’s approach extends healthcare beyond the traditional hospital setting. Through community outreach and education, hospital team members work directly with residents to promote prevention, early detection and healthier lifestyles while connecting individuals with healthcare resources and services.

Together, the two Hospital of the Year awards demonstrate the breadth of LCMC Health’s commitment to nursing excellence and community-centered care — from a community hospital deeply rooted in Eastern New Orleans to a major pediatric academic medical center serving children from across the state and region.
