Emergency Preparedness
University Medical Center uses a comprehensive hurricane preparedness plan to provide safety and security to our patients and staff before, during and after a major storm. We work with local and national vendors to provide security, electrical power, food and other support services. Facility safeguards are securely in place, such as back-up power sources and fuel, facility flood prevention and emergency communication devices, to maintain our facility’s ability to operate in the event of a hurricane. Transfer processes and plans within LCMC Health hospitals across the country exist in the event that patients would need to be relocated.
As a Level 1 Trauma Center, Verified Burn Center, and Academic Medical Center, University Medical Center is committed to providing for our patients and staff during a storm. We cannot function as a community shelter during storms and are not a location for refuge—please make alternate arrangements in advance.
