University Medical Center New Orleans' Charlotte Parent, RN, MHCM, appointed to BioDistrict New Orleans

Charlotte Parent, RN, MHCM, Vice President of Business Development at University Medical Center, has been appointed by Gov. John Bel Edwards to serve as a commissioner on BioDistrict New Orleans, a state-enabled economic development district.

The 2.4 square mile district, spanning downtown and Mid-City, is focused on growing both the programmatic and physical development components of the biosciences sector of the New Orleans economy. BioDistrict New Orleans is comprised of 15 members representing major academic and medical institutions in New Orleans. Charlotte, one of four members appointed by the Louisiana Governor, will serve a six-year term pending Senate confirmation.

“I’m honored to be appointed to BioDistrict New Orleans and welcome the opportunity to help advance its important mission,” she said. ”As an anchor institution of the BioDistrict, University Medical Center shares the vision of developing this vital area into a thriving business, education, science, and healthcare destination.”

Charlotte has an extensive history of using her talents to invest in the development of the City of New Orleans in business, education, science, and healthcare. In her current role at University Medical Center, which is located in the heart of the BioDistrict, Charlotte develops and establishes strategic business initiatives to meet the needs of the community while working in partnership with physicians and hospital leadership.

In her previous role as New Orleans Health Director, Charlotte was instrumental in the City’s smoking ban. While serving on the Board of the Hospital Service District for New Orleans East Hospital, she was part of the team that re-built New Orleans East Hospital, improving access to healthcare in that area.

Charlotte was recently recognized by the Orchid Society, a professional network of African American women serving as positive role models for young ladies, for her outstanding compassion for New Orleans.
