LCMC Health Kicks Off National Nurses Week

Special celebrations include Called-to-Care Scholars ribbon-cutting event and nursing students pinning ceremony

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Today, New Orleans-based, non-profit health system, LCMC Health, announced plans to celebrate National Nurses Week around its Called-to-Care Scholars Program in collaboration with Chamberlain University, the largest school of nursing in the nation. LCMC Health will host a ribbon-cutting event to unveil a new dedicated course location for its LCMC Health Scholars located on the campus of East Jefferson General Hospital and a pinning ceremony to recognize nursing students advancing to the next phase of clinical studies.

Last year, LCMC Health and Chamberlain University joined forces to help address the nursing shortage and nurse burnout due to the pandemic. As a result, LCMC Health established the Called-to-Care Scholars Program, an innovative initiative addressing the demand for more nurses and the need for expanding access to high-quality education by creating a pipeline of nurses committed to serving the community.

“Collaboration is key in healthcare and LCMC Health is proud of our alliance with Chamberlain University,” said Greg Feirn, CEO, LCMC Health. “Nurses are the heart and soul of our hospitals, and we are excited to do our part by investing in the future of healthcare.”

LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program offers up to three years of full tuition coverage to eligible new students for Chamberlain’s 3-Year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program at the new course location. Additionally, these scholars will commit to an up to three-year employment pledge to LCMC Health upon graduating and passing the NCLEX-RN® and provide care for underserved communities in the New Orleans metropolitan area.* In its first year, 120 students have been accepted into the Scholars program. Applications open on Monday, May 9, for the next cohort that starts in September 2022.

Chamberlain University, an Adtalem Global Education institution, is committed to finding solutions to the workforce challenges that employer partners are facing, while offering opportunities for academic excellence, student success, and lifelong learning. Through expanding access to education, Chamberlain’s network of more than 100,000 alumni makes a difference every day in the communities that they serve.

LCMC Health is excited to pay tribute to dedicated healthcare heroes during National Nurses Week. We will continue supporting industry efforts by strengthening patient care readiness and expanding educational opportunities, creating a nursing pipeline to support regional and employer needs, and maximizing community impact by scaling healthcare excellence.
