Shadow Program

Career observation for future healthcare professionals

University Medical Center New Orleans is proud to offer a Career Observation Program for individuals exploring a future in healthcare and professionals looking to determine if UMC is where they might want to work. This unique Shadow Program opportunity allows individuals to observe our dedicated medical staff and employees as they deliver compassionate, high-quality care.

Designed to support informed career decisions, this program allows participants to observe the day-to-day responsibilities, work environment, and professional interactions within their area of interest. Through this experience, observers gain valuable insight into the education and training required for various roles, explore potential career paths, and model professional behavior through firsthand observation.

To participate, individuals must be sponsored by a credentialed member of our medical staff or a UMCNO department director. All requests are reviewed based on the applicant’s qualifications and the hospital’s capacity to accommodate observers.

Completed applications and required documents (PDF format) should be emailed to UMCEducation@lcmchealth.org.
