West Jefferson Hospital Foundation Sullivan Press Release

West Jefferson Hospital Foundation Sullivan Press Release

MARRERO – On November 1st, West Jefferson Medical Center unveiled a special memorial plaque dedicated to Judge Henry G. Sullivan, Jr. that was made possible by friends, family, and community members who donated $86,300 in his memory.

Judge Sullivan was a fixture in our community serving for 24 years on the bench in Jefferson Parish’s 24th Judicial District Court. He was known by many as an exemplary judge. He was also a lifelong Westbank resident who cared deeply about our community. When he was diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of cancer that begins within the brain, Judge Sullivan came to Dr. Frank Culicchia at West Jefferson Medical Center for treatment. With Judge Sullivan facing such an incredible challenge, it was important to him and his family that he was able to receive world-class care close to home.

West Jefferson Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in neuroscience bringing together a team of world-class physicians, neurosurgeons, researchers, and educators to fulfill our mission of healing and restoring the lives of every patient under our care.

In appreciation of the care he received, and to continue Judge Sullivan’s legacy of kindness and compassion, his wife Judy Sullivan, and family made the decision to raise funds for the LCMC Health Neuroscience Institute to support other families battling glioblastoma and other neurological conditions.

The outpouring of support was extraordinary, and Mrs. Sullivan raised an incredible $86,300 for the West Jefferson Hospital Foundation benefiting the Neuroscience Institute. “This support will help advance clinical care and support for families treated at the Neuroscience Institute and lets our physicians and staff know that we believe in the great work they do for our community and beyond”, said Rob Calhoun, CEO of West Jefferson Medical Center.

This special plaque will remain displayed in the Neurosurgery Clinic honoring Judge Henry G. Sullivan, Jr. and recognizing all of the generous donors who contributed in his memory.
