Lucido L. Ponce Mejia, MD

About Dr. Ponce Mejia

I'm Dr. L. Luciano Ponce Mejia, and my passion for neurology has taken me from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to training in Texas, Maryland, and California—ultimately bringing me to New Orleans, where I’ve been caring for patients for over 15 years.

I completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by advanced training in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at UCLA. I specialize in minimally invasive procedures to treat complex brain, spine, and vascular conditions, including ischemic stroke, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and traumatic arterial dissections.

One of my special interests is pediatric neuroendovascular care. I’m proud to support the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) in treating acute strokes in children. In 2021, I joined the LSUHSC Neurosurgery Department, where I enjoy training residents in Neurosurgery, Radiology, and both Adult and Child Neurology.

My recent research focuses on stroke care, neurotrauma, and new device development. I’ve published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in publications including JAMA, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery.
