Lakeview Regional announces Daisy award winner

Lakeview Hospital , a campus of Tulane Medical Center, has announced that Ashley Blanchard, a registered nurse in the women’s & children’s center, received the DAISY Award for the first quarter of 2021. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. Ashley was nominated by two patients she cared for in the obstetrics department. this past spring. "Our nurses are heroes, and it is important for them to know just how much we value them every day," said Jennifer Schmidt, chief nursing officer. "This program gives our patients the opportunity to thank their nurses and provides recognition on a bigger platform."

Ashley's dedication led to two nominations. One patient said, “Ashley wiped my face with cool cloths, helped to change my gown and sheets, and told me stories about her nana to make me feel better. She was professional, kind, positive, friendly, and an excellent caregiver.”

The second patient said, “I was blessed to have Ashley as my nurse. She made sure I was taken care of and took her time to explain what was going on, all while trying to get that smile on my face. She has a heart of gold and deserves more than a thank you. Being a nurse takes a special person, and Ashley is truly special. ”

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and employees are invited to nominate a Lakeview Regional nurse for the DAISY Award. The nominee should consistently model empathy and demonstrate a caring attitude in all situations; demonstrate extraordinary clinical skills in the delivery of compassionate patient care; have a positive attitude and demonstrate professionalism in the work environment; exemplify the mission, vision, and values of Lakeview Regional; and establish a special connection with the patients and families.

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.

You can nominate a nurse by picking up a form at Lakeview or simply fill out DAISY Award nomination form.
