Lakeview Regional's newest Daisy award winner announced

Lakeview Hospital , a campus of Tulane Medical Center, has announced Shane Brossette, RN, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses during the third quarter of 2021. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. Brossette received a hand-carved statue and a framed certificate from the DAISY organization.

“It’s important for us to recognize the extraordinary work our nurses do each day,” said Jennifer Schmidt, Lakeview Regional’s chief nursing officer. “While it’s the job of a nurse to care for patients, Shane exceeds those expectations every day without a second thought. He goes above and beyond making a meaningful impact on both patients and their families.”

Brossette, a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse, was nominated by a recent patient for his kindness, compassion and nurturing spirit. The patient had surgery at Lakeview Regional in June. “Shane took excellent care of me while in recovery,” said the nomination. “He explained everything he was doing. When I moaned, he was right there at my side to see what I needed. His care went beyond my expectations. I felt safe and cared for while Shane was with me. Now I always request him when I have surgery because I know he will always be there meeting my needs. He is the absolute best!”

Shane is a retired Navy veteran and has served as a nurse for both the military and LCMC Health, Lakeview Regional’s parent organization. He calls his career a blessing allowing him to incorporate the shared traditions, values and missions of both organizations into a job that improves the lives of patients and families in our community.

Patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and employees are invited to nominate a Lakeview Regional nurse for the DAISY Award. The nominee should consistently model empathy and demonstrate a caring attitude in all situations; demonstrate extraordinary clinical skills in the delivery of compassionate patient care; have a positive attitude and demonstrate professionalism in the work environment; exemplify the mission, vision and values of Lakeview Regional; and establish a special connection with the patients and families.

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say "thank you" to nurses in a very public way.

You can nominate a nurse by picking up a form at Lakeview Regional or simply fill out a DAISY Award nomination form online at Daisy Award Nomination Form.
