University Medical Center ranked by Lown Institute as the most racially inclusive hospital in Louisiana

University Medical Center New Orleans has been named the most racially inclusive hospital in the State of Louisiana by the Lown Institute, a nonpartisan think tank.

The Lown Institute list compared how well more than 3,200 U.S. hospitals serve people of color in their surrounding community, based on Medicare claims and U.S. Census Bureau data from 2018. Each hospital’s racial inclusivity score is designed to show how the demographics of the community compare to the actual patient population.

University Medical Center, a part of LCMC Health, is committed to meeting the needs of the diverse population that we serve. University Medical Center is home to the Rev. Avery C. Alexander Academic Research Center, honoring the legacy of the respected Civil Rights and community leader who served in the Louisiana Legislature for more than 20 years.
