West Jefferson Medical Center Receives ACR Accreditation for PET Services

West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, LA. has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in PET Services as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology. “We are pleased to report that the PET Service of West Jefferson Medical Center has received a three year accreditation, ” Nancy R. Cassagne, Chief Executive Officer, said “Our PET Service for Oncology was surveyed by the committee on Nuclear Medicine Accreditation of the Commission on Quality and Safety of the American College of Radiology.”

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. “Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field,” Michael Alline, M.D., Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at West Jefferson’ explained. “They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. We are pleased to have our PET Services receive this distinction. It is of special importance to our Community Cancer Program at West Jefferson.”

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

“Coming on the heels of West Jefferson being the 2007 Louisiana hospital to be awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Commission on Cancer (of the American College of Surgeons) makes the accreditation of PET Services even more meaningful,” Angela Greener, Chief Administrative Officer, added. “We appreciate the dedication and abilities of our Medical Staff, members of the Cancer Committee and doctors at the bedside and in our outpatient areas. They make a difference in the delivery of quality care and services through our Cancer Program.”
