Marrero, LA (October 2021) – It is an unprecedented time in West Jefferson Medical Center’s history. With a $90 million campus transformation underway, the vision to build innovative programs, expand access to healthcare, and invest in technology will enable the hospital to tackle more of the significant health challenges of the community.

West Jefferson’s master plan includes the enhancement of technology and infrastructure to help treat the most critically ill patients with the highest level of care. Their unwavering commitment is proven through its recent collaboration with Perspectum Ltd., a global medical technology company, that will now offer a new diagnostic test called LiverMultiScan®. Dedicated exclusively to diagnose patients and build better health outcomes, West Jefferson Medical Center will be uniquely positioned to shape a better future for those at risk or living with chronic liver disease.

LiverMultiScan® is a non-invasive precision imaging test that can assess liver health using a comprehensive non-contrast MRI scan. The test provides vital information through one, singular scan of any patient suspected of having Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH). Identifying chronic liver disease in the early stages can significantly reduce risks for serious complications including liver failure, cancer or the need for a liver transplant.

Louisiana ranks high in the nation for liver cancer diagnoses, according to Dr. Michael D’Antonio, a radiologist at West Jefferson Medical Center. “Having the most sophisticated technology will help us change this statistic one patient at a time. LiverMultiscan® optimizes the delivery of our care, so we can have advanced images of the liver – allowing for early detection, diagnosis and treatment options for patients.” The addition of this technology will help a comprehensive team of radiologists deliver expert, patient-centered care.

“We are proud to collaborate with Perspectum in delivering this specialized care to meet the increasing needs of our community, says Rob Calhoun, President & CEO of West Jefferson Medical Center. “Our investment in the latest diagnostic technology solidifies our promise to shape a healthier future for patients and families in our region.”
