East Jefferson General Hospital cardiac rehab patient Margaret Barrett celebrated her 95th birthday in a unique way on Monday morning as friends, family and a special visit from Miss Louisiana gathered at the Wellness Center to help ring in the milestone.

The long-time EJGH Cardiac Rehab program participant and her fellow phase three patients had the opportunity to meet Miss Louisiana, Christina Famularo, at the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event this past month and the group became instant friends.

So when the opportunity arose to join Barrett in celebrating the milestone, Famularo happily accepted, taking time out of her jam-packed schedule to spend the morning honoring her newfound friend.

“Mrs. Margaret is a true example of what the EJGH Cardiac Rehab program embodies,” said Suann North, EJGH Cardiac Rehab Educator. “She attends classes regularly, always with a smile on her face and dressed to the nines. She is the poster person for what we are all about.”

Surrounded by loved ones, Barrett blew out the candles for the 95th time, happily dividing up her five birthday cakes among the countless attendees.
