Give the Gift of Life. Donate Blood.
Your gift can make an extraordinary difference. Blood is a priceless gift that saves lives. There is no substitute for blood.
East Jefferson General Hospital depends on contributions from our friends and supporters, in other words…you. Regular blood donation is a vital part of our ability to care for our community. Blood has a relatively short shelf life. One pint of blood is separated into several different components: red blood cells, plasma, and platelet concentrate. Red blood cells are refrigerated and can be stored for up to 35 days. Plasma can be frozen for up to a year; however, platelet concentrate, which controls bleeding, expires in only five days. At East Jefferson General Hospital, we use more than 1,000 units of blood and blood components each month. That’s why regular donors are so important to us.
