About Dr. Ponce Mejia
Dr. L. Luciano Ponce Mejia’s passion for the study and practice of neurology propelled him from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Galveston, Texas, and then on to Baltimore, Maryland, and Los Angeles before landing him in New Orleans, where he brings 15 years of experience to patients of LCMC Health.
After completing a Neurocritical Care fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Ponce participated in an additional fellowship program in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at University of California Los Angeles.
Dr. Ponce specializes in state-of-the-art minimally invasive techniques to address a wide range of brain, spine, and head and neck vascular conditions, including ischemic stroke, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and traumatic arterial dissections.
One of the few physicians in the region with special interest in treating pediatric neuroendovascular conditions, Dr. Ponce is part of the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) for the treatment and management of acute strokes in the pediatric population. In 2021, he joined the LSUHSC Neurosurgery department and enjoys sharing his expertise and experience in training residents from Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Adult and Child Neurology.
Dr. Ponce’s recent research interest has focused on stroke care, and new device development, as well as neurotrauma. He has published more 20 peer-reviewed journals and book chapters in journals such as JAMA, Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery.
