I have always been an avid outdoorsman, but I noticed that I was having a little trouble getting up in the tree stand with all my gear this deer season. I felt out of breath and fatigued. I went to see my primary cardiologist, Dr. Marc Bernstein, who discovered that my heart valve showed signs of weakness. He said I was a prime candidate for a heart valve replacement. He gave me two choices following my angiogram—have the TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) at Lakeview Hospital or competing hospital. He recommended Dr. Hamid Salam over any doctor on the north or south shore. So, I chose Lakeview.

Dr. Salam and Dr. John Breaux performed the procedure through my groin, and I only spent one night in the hospital before going home. But while I was there, my care coordinator Gretchen was very attentive and kind to my wife and me. When I returned for my follow-up echocardiogram, which showed the procedure was perfect, I ran into Gretchen, who gave me a big hug. The whole experience was awesome, and I feel great. Now, I’m back to hunting and fishing. I even killed my second biggest deer this season.
