Michael Griffin appointed newest member of UMCNO Governing Board

DCSNO President/CEO to bring focus on patient-centered and quality care to University Medical Center Management Corporation

NEW ORLEANS, LA – University Medical Center Management Corporation announced Monday that Michael Griffin will join its governing board this July. Griffin is the president and CEO of Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans – a nonprofit healthcare organization that has served the Greater New Orleans Area for more than 180 years.

Griffin is a former member of Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s healthcare transition teams. With more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, he has become a leading voice for patient-centered and quality care, both of which he plans to prioritize in his tenure as a UMCMC board member.

“We’re thrilled to have someone with Michael Griffin’s healthcare industry experience and community knowledge join the board. He’ll be a great asset to our organization,” said University Medical Center President & CEO Bill Masterton.

Griffin’s mission as a healthcare professional has been to provide access to compassionate, high-quality care to all New Orleans residents, regardless of their financial limitations. The opportunity to fulfill this mission and improve the health outcomes of the local community are what have drawn Griffin to serve University Medical Center.

“University Medical Center’s dedication to working with community providers, coupled with its partnership with two premiere academic institutions, makes for a very unique combination I’m excited to be a part of,” Griffin said. “In the next five years, I see University Medical Center being a vital part of our community’s commitment to change and serving as a resource to deliver on that promise.”

In addition to his board position, Griffin will continue to serve on several nonprofit boards, including 504 Health Net, the Louisiana Primary Care Association, Health Care Journal of New Orleans and DCSNO.

Griffin is a U.S. Army veteran with a Bachelor of Science from Dillard University. He received his Master of Science-Public Health degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tn.
