Violence Intervention Program

Violence Intervention Program at UMC New Orleans

Our approach

Compassionate, Credible Support

Our trained and credible Violence Prevention Professionals work directly with survivors of gun violence in Orleans Parish. We believe that when people feel seen, heard, and empowered to explore their strengths, they can chart a path toward a safer, more secure future for themselves and their families.

Care from crisis through recovery

  • Violence Interrupters (Hospital-Based): Support survivors and loved ones at the bedside, helping them navigate the immediate crisis and develop a plan to stay safe moving forward.
  • Violence Intervention Specialists (Long-Term Support): Based within the Trauma Recovery Center, these specialists work with survivors to build and achieve goals that promote full recovery, stability, and long-term wellbeing.

Integrated trauma recovery

Healing after violence is deeply physical and emotional. VIP is embedded within the Seeds of NOLA Trauma Recovery Center, where survivors can access:

  • Trauma focused mental health
  • Wraparound support services
  • Coordinated, trauma-informed practices across all staff interactions

Our goal is to make coping with the emotional impact of violence as manageable as possible.
