Axonics
Axonics
A lack of communication between your brain and your sacral nerves, which control the bladder and bowel, can lead to incontinence and disrupt everyday activity. If medication has not helped resolve your incontinence, technology may be the answer, and relief could come with Axonics Therapy.
What is Axonics Therapy?
Axonics Therapy involves implanting a small neurostimulator near the sacral nerves in the lower back. Once inserted, the implant provides the stimulation needed for improved communication between your brain and your sacral nerve allowing more control over your bladder and bowel.
Steps to taking control
There is a process for using Axonics Therapy:
- Trial Period: using an external version of the neurostimulator to determine if this therapy is best for you is the first step. In an outpatient procedure, your doctor will connect an external version of Axonics to evaluate the effectiveness of the neurostimulator for 5-14 days.
- If this therapy produces positive results, the Axonics device will be implanted for long-term use. This is an outpatient procedure that takes about 45-60 minutes.
- Axonics therapy is reversible and can be stopped anytime by turning the neurostimulator off or removing the device.
