About Dr. Odia
A career in medicine was driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives during their most difficult moments. Neurology became a natural focus due to the brain’s complexity and its central role in identity and function. Subspecialty training in neuro-oncology followed, with a commitment to caring for patients facing brain tumors and nervous system cancers, conditions that demand not only advanced expertise but also compassion, clear guidance, and strong advocacy.
Training at leading institutions, including the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the National Institutes of Health, fostered a deep commitment to integrating research with patient care. Board certification in Neurology and Neuro-Oncology reflects this dedication, along with leadership in more than 30 clinical trials and authorship of over 80 scientific publications.
In the role of System-wide Director of Neuro-Oncology and Medical Director of the Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office at LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center, efforts are focused on expanding patient access to the most advanced therapies available.
Above all, care is thoughtful and individualized, with time devoted to listening, clearly explaining complex information, and treating each patient as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.
My little something extra:
Patient care is built on partnership. A strong emphasis is placed on shared decision-making so that patients and families feel informed, empowered, and supported throughout what can often be an overwhelming journey. Ongoing dedication to research and innovation includes leading clinical trials and translational work that brings promising new therapies directly to patients.
Humanism remains central to every interaction. Recognition for excellence in humanism and teaching reflects a commitment to compassion, clear communication, and respect. Often, it is the extra time spent answering questions, identifying clinical trial opportunities, or simply offering reassurance that makes the greatest difference.
