Investing in the Future of Women and Newborn Care in Jefferson Parish
A $14 Million Commitment to Patients, Families and Our Teams:
LCMC Health is proud to announce a significant $14 million investment in Lakeside Hospital, a transformative step that will elevate Women and Newborn Care services on the East Bank of Jefferson Parish. Through this initiative, LCMC Health will unify the robust services currently available at both East Jefferson General Hospital (EJGH) and Lakeside Hospital, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility where LCMC Health, Tulane, and LSU physicians can deliver outstanding care to women and newborns.
Lakeside Hospital is set to become the premier destination for labor and delivery in Jefferson Parish—the largest in Jefferson Parish. This comprehensive approach will ensure that women have access to a complete range of specialized services, all designed to support their health and well-being. Ultimately, this investment underscores LCMC Health’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality care and achieving the best possible outcomes for mothers and their babies.
What this means:
This project will:
- Bring Women and Newborn care service from East Jefferson General Hospital and Lakeside together at Lakeside Hospital
- Create a modernized, boutique-style birthing environment
- Expand access to specialty care and advanced neonatal services
- Strengthen academic training with Tulane and LSU
- Allow East Jefferson General Hospital to expand medical-surgical and operating room capacity
With more than 2,000 babies delivered annually between the two campuses, this transformation will serve thousands of families each year in Jefferson Parish and surrounding communities.
What will be built at Lakeside:
The reimagined Women and Newborn Care Center will include:
- 10 modernized Labor and Delivery suites
- 30 enhanced Mother-Baby postpartum rooms
- A 26-bed Level III NICU staffed by neonatologists from Manning Family Children’s
- Three state-of-the-art operating room
- A new six-bed adult Intensive Care Unit
- Expanded respiratory care, maternal-fetal medicine and occupational therapy services
- 24/7 anesthesia coverage and subspecialty consultations
- Five new clinic spaces to support 16 relocating physicians
- A redesigned main entrance and upgraded exterior
Lakeside will continue to hold its Baby-Friendly USA designation and other recognitions, including Birth Ready+, LaGift+, National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification (Bronze) and the IBCLC Care Award.

Please note that if you are currently pregnant or have an upcoming scheduled
procedure, your care plan will not be impacted. Over the coming months,
we will share more detailed timelines and transition plans that will occur in 2027.

What happens at East Jefferson General Hospital:
Following the transition:
- The current Women and Newborn Care space will be repurposed
- 27 new medical-surgical beds will be added
- Three operating rooms will be added
This expansion will support growing specialty service lines and meet increasing demand for inpatient and surgical care.
Academic and Clinical Partnerships:
As part of this transition:
- Women’s Health providers and OB emergency hospitalists currently based at East Jefferson General Hospital will relocate to Lakeside
- LSU Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists will join Lakeside teams
- Tulane academic partners will continue delivering care and training at Lakeside

LCMC Health's focus on Women's Health:
LCMC Health’s other hospitals - Touro, West Jefferson Medical Center and Lakeview Hospital - will continue operating their existing birthing centers and Women’s Health services. This consolidation is a targeted investment to strengthen care delivery in Jefferson Parish while preserving access across the region.
