About Dr. Thakur

I strive to provide compassionate and effective care by truly understanding my patients’ perspectives, goals, and the family and social contexts that shape their lives. I use a variety of medical and psychological approaches, always with an emphasis on evidence-based practices, and I believe strongly in the healing power of positive relationships.

I am board certified in both child and adolescent psychiatry and general psychiatry. My experience includes evaluating and treating a wide range of psychiatric concerns across the lifespan, including mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, oppositionality, and psychosis. I believe that all people—including children—deserve respect, voice, and care that honors their individuality.

My academic and clinical interests include cultural mental health and psychodynamics, and I enjoy teaching courses in these areas for Tulane Psychiatry trainees. I work with patients in the Tulane Early Psychosis Intervention Clinic and Jefferson Parish School-Based Health Centers, and I also maintain a general and child psychiatry and psychotherapy practice at Tulane.

Outside of work, I find joy in dance, music, travel, nature, and food.
