About Dr. Velander, II
I'm Dr. Velander, a neurointensivist with a background in both English and Chemistry from Williams College, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I continued my studies at Exeter College in Oxford before earning my medical degree from the University of Michigan, specializing in neurology.
Throughout my academic and medical career, I’ve been honored to receive several awards, including National Merit Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa. I was elected as Chief Resident of Neurology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. While teaching at LSU Health Sciences Center, I was proud to receive the Faculty Teaching Award.
At West Jefferson Medical Center, I helped establish and organize the neurocritical care unit to improve outcomes for ICU patients facing life-threatening neurological conditions.
My specialty is neurocritical care.
