About Dr. Torres Ortiz
I graduated with honors from the University of Guadalajara Medical School in Mexico. I completed my Internal Medicine residency at Tecnologico de Monterrey, where I first became interested in nephrology while conducting research on Phase III trials of novel hypoxia-inducible factor inhibitors in Texas. I then completed both my Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology fellowship at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.
During my training, I was actively involved in research and was honored to receive the 2020–2021 Ochsner Research Award for Outstanding Research by a Trainee as well as 2nd place in the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation (SSCI) Young Investigator Award in 2020. I also serve as a reviewer for PLOS ONE.
In July 2022, I joined the Sections of General Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Tulane University. I currently serve as both an academic nephrologist and academic hospitalist at University Medical Center and Tulane Medical Center.
