About Dr. Jernigan

I am a Gynecologic Oncologist with the LSU Health Sciences Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I earned my medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, where I was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. I went on to complete my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, serving as Administrative Chief Resident and receiving the Ungula Sinistra award for my surgical skills and dedication to caring for women with gynecologic cancer. I then completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.

As a Gynecologic Oncologist, I specialize in using surgery and chemotherapy to treat gynecologic cancers, as well as gynecologic conditions requiring complex surgical care. I am board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Gynecologic Oncology, and I am a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Nationally, I serve on the Communications Committee of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the Rare Tumors Committee of the National Research Group, and the Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee of the National Cancer Institute. I was honored to receive the Society of Gynecologic Oncology Humanitarianism and Volunteerism Award. In addition, I have published and presented dozens of scientific abstracts and articles, and I remain actively engaged in research with the goal of advancing care and expanding treatment options for women with gynecologic cancers.

My little something extra
I have two crazy dogs named Jodie Bananas Foster and Edgar Allan Po'Boy and a beautiful son named Robert (but he loves music so his teachers call him DJ Robble Dobbles).
