About Dr. Ma

With over 20 years of experience as a thoracic oncology clinician-scientist, I serve as Associate Director of Clinical Research and Section Chief of Hematology/Oncology at LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center. My work focuses on advancing cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment through precision medicine and innovative therapies, combining clinical expertise with molecular research.

I am committed to improving patient outcomes through multidisciplinary collaboration and by translating cutting-edge research into meaningful treatment options. I am also proud to be part of LSU’s team effort to achieve NCI designation, strengthening cancer care and research for the people of Louisiana.

My little something extra:
My little something extra is perseverance. Early in my career, a major research presentation was postponed by the SARS pandemic—but instead of slowing down, it strengthened my resolve. Seventeen years later, the work we began helped lead to FDA-approved targeted therapies for lung cancer. That experience taught me that progress in cancer research is a marathon, not a sprint, and I bring that same endurance, adaptability, and long-term commitment to every patient and every study I lead.
