Prasanth Patcha, MD

About Dr. Patcha

I am a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a clinical and academic background spanning general and aesthetic plastic surgery, microsurgery, and advanced reconstructive techniques. I am a Diplomate of both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Prior to joining my current practice, I served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine and as a faculty plastic surgeon at the Birmingham VA Hospital.

I earned my Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University and hold both a Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University. I completed my plastic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I also served as Chief Resident. To further advance my expertise in microsurgery, I completed an international fellowship under Professor Phillip Blondeel in Belgium.

My clinical interests include aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, perforator flaps, limb salvage, breast reconstruction, lymphatic surgery, and robotic-assisted procedures. My research focuses on microsurgical outcomes, flap monitoring, and innovations in tissue oximetry. I have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and have presented my work at national and international conferences.

I am passionate about educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and have mentored medical students, residents, and physician assistant students throughout my career. I have been recognized for excellence in teaching and am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as an active member of several national surgical societies.
