
About Dr. Thomas
Dr. Raju Thomas is Chair and Professor of Urology at Tulane University School of Medicine. Trained in India, Chicago, and New Orleans, he’s been shaping the future of urologic care at Tulane since 1982.
A leader in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Thomas has pioneered techniques in robotics, laparoscopy, and prostate cancer treatment. Dr. Thomas has pioneered, and developed the principles regarding, several innovative endoscopic and surgical procedures, such as ureteroscopic retrograde endopyelotomy and urological laparoscopy, and he has promoted radical perineal prostatectomy in conjunction with laparoscopy as a minimally morbid alternative for management of prostate cancer. He directs Tulane’s Urology Residency and national training programs focused on advanced kidney stone and cryosurgery care.
Widely published and nationally recognized—including honors like the AUA Distinguished Service Award and New Orleans’ Spirit of Charity Award—Dr. Thomas is dedicated to advancing care, training future leaders, and improving outcomes for all patients.
