Rizwan Aslam, DO

About Dr. Aslam

I am a board-certified, fellowship-trained head and neck surgical oncologist and reconstructive surgeon, and I serve as Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. I have been a faculty member at Tulane for more than 14 years and have held several leadership roles, including Program Director of the Otolaryngology Residency Training Program.

My clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of head and neck cancers, including complex tumor removal and microvascular reconstruction. I have a special interest in robotic surgery, thyroid surgery, and advanced reconstructive techniques, including virtual surgical planning. I completed my surgical internship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, my otolaryngology residency at UPMC Hamot, and a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Cincinnati.

In addition to my clinical work, I am deeply committed to medical education, research, and healthcare leadership. I have authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and lecture nationally and internationally on advanced head and neck cancer care and reconstruction. To further support my passion for education and systems improvement, I pursued advanced degrees in medical education, public health, and business administration.

I provide compassionate, patient-centered care for individuals facing head and neck cancer, including those who require reconstructive surgery. I chose this field because of the powerful bond surgeons form with their patients—we go to battle against cancer together. I treat every patient as I would my own family, with honesty, empathy, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
