About Sasa

As Director of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology and Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support, I joined Tulane University School of Medicine and care for patients at East Jefferson General Hospital, part of LCMC Health. I came to Tulane from Montefiore Hospital at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, where I treated patients with the most complex and advanced forms of heart disease.

I earned my MD and PhD in Immunology from the University of Belgrade in Serbia, followed by postdoctoral training in autoimmunity and inflammation at Weill Cornell Medical College–Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell–Lenox Hill Hospital and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Emory University School of Medicine. I then pursued advanced fellowship training in Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine–Montefiore Medical Center.

I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. My clinical focus is on caring for patients with advanced heart failure, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation, with the goal of delivering innovative, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s needs.

I am actively involved in clinical research and have authored numerous publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. I am also frequently invited to speak at national and international scientific meetings, where I share insights aimed at advancing the field and improving outcomes for patients with advanced heart disease.
