As Medical Director of the LSU Health Science Center and the LCMC Health Heart Valve program, I am leading the effort to establish a comprehensive Structural Heart and Heart Valve Center dedicated to serving patients across the Gulf South. My goal is to build a system-wide program that provides exceptional care while advancing research and training—creating a lasting resource for our region for decades to come.
I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Interventional Vascular Medicine. I’ve authored hundreds of scientific papers, participated in more than 200 clinical trials, and performed complex coronary and structural heart procedures worldwide.
I n my previous role at Ochsner Health, I served as Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Section Head of Interventional Cardiology, and since 2010 as Medical Director of the Gayle and Tom Benson Heart Valve Center. Working with multidisciplinary teams, we built a nationally recognized valve center with top TAVR rankings and strong mitral, tricuspid, and left atrial appendage programs.
I’ve served as Chair of the Benson Heart Valve Center, Board of Trustees member and Master of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, past-Chair of the Interventional Council of the American College of Cardiology, Governor of the Louisiana ACC, and founding Program Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Ochsner.
Earlier in my career, I joined the U.S. Army in 1977, completed my residency and fellowship at Letterman Army Medical Center, and served as Director of the Catheterization Laboratory at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before moving to Ochsner Clinic in 1988 to help rebuild the Cardiology Department.
I’m a proud Army Brat. I earned my B.A. in Political Science from Vanderbilt University in 1974, an M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University in 1976, and graduated AOA from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1980.
